Sprite work!

I’ve been working on the sprites and backgrounds for Pangolin Quest-here are some of them!

This is the background for the Africa level…

AW YEAH!

This is the background for the China level…

WOO!

Here’s the backgrounds for the India and final level…

YAY!\

a bit dramatic....

I would show the character sprites, but I can’t seem to upload them.

Sorry.

I haven’t posted for a while. Rest assured, I’m still alive- I’m just working on character sprites, and pangolins are really hard to draw.

But I do have the outlines for the boss fights done!
The first boss will be a poacher in Africa, and will be a boss in the style of Whispy Woods from the Kirby games- an easy boss with two simple attacks. He’ll shoot, you jump to avoid the bullets, he charges, you jump to avoid, etc.

The second boss will be a chef in India, and going back to the Kirby parallels, will be in the style of Chef Kawasaki. Trying to ladle you up, throwing knifes and pots, etc.

The third boss will be a doctor in China, and he’ll throw potions and other Traditional Chinese Medicinal objects.

Finally,  the final boss will be the leader of the pangolin smuggling ring, but I haven’t gotten all the details for him.

What is a Pangolin?

I said that I would explain what a pangolin is later, so here we go!

This-

Tree_Pangolin.jpg

-is a pangolin. Well, to be more specific, a tree pangolin. There are 7 species of pangolin (including our buddy here), and they live in Africa and Asia. Most of them are nocturnal, and when they feel threatened, they can curl up into a ball that’s basically impenetrable thanks to those scales. Their tongues can measure up to 16 inches in the larger species, and they’re insectivorous, eating mostly termites and ants. Plus, they’re ridiculously cute.

However, these animals are endangered-hunted for their meat and scales, the latter of which is believed to cure cancer and rheumatism in Traditional Chinese Medicine. They’re the most trafficked mammal in the world- but barely anyone knows about them.

Seriously, there was a seizure of nearly a ton of pangolin scales and ivory on the 28th of this September, and STILL barely anyone knows about them!

That’s why I’m making Pangolin Quest-to raise awareness of these critters and show what you can do to help them.

Hi!
My name is Grace M., and welcome to Pangolin Quest!

This blog is for my IB Personal Project (If you don’t know what that is, look here), which will be a computer game about pangolins! Many of you probably don’t know what a pangolin is, so I’ll post an explanation a bit later.

On this blog, I will post level designs, character art, my progress, information on pangolins, and maybe even demos of my game, if I’m able too. Feel free to comment and ask questions any time.

I hope that through this blog, not only will you get an entertaining game to play, but you’ll also learn a little bit about the wacky animals that inhabit our planet.

Thanks for taking a look!

-Grace M.
